  • Group size:
    Small group, Group
  • Duration:
    20–30 min
  • Materials:
    • 20+ printed cards/photos of media figures from different decades (heroes from series, film stars, comic figures — from different times/childhood of participants)
    • Laminated on the floor or hanging on a line with pegs

Goal

The method opens a conversation around popular media figures that most children and adults have a connection to. In the discussion it can help to uncover the meaningful impact of media experiences during childhood, connect to positive and negative experiences, detect changes and dynamics in technological development and make connections over generations. In teams and among parents it serves to find out more about our biographical imprints and how they can shape our attitude towards digital media today.

Steps

1

Lay out the cards/photos or hang them on a line.

2

Let the group look at the photos, walk around and choose one.

3

Open the conversation: Why did you choose this photo/card? What feelings and memories are linked to this card?

4

Possibility to choose one from own childhood and one that is relevant to kids now.
